quirky cafés and tea shops in London?

going to be drinking a lot of tea in London

Need your help. Please. Pretty please.

Tried this on my Teablog, and only got one tip. I’m in London this weekend, which means there’ll be tea drinking and idling in an entirely new country. Exciting, right?

But as much as I know of the city, there are always places one’s never heard of.

I’m staying near Tottenham Hale, and I need a fantastic, quirky place for a late breakfast on the first morning. Any ideas?

Then, I’m with my friend Nigel in Soho on Friday afternoon, and he’ll take care of where we’re going. At some point we’ll be  darkening the doors of The Idler Academy of Philosophy, Husbandry and Merriment, which I’ll most definitely be blogging about.

But otherwise I’m on the lookout for tea shops and cafés. It could mean the place gets a bit of publicity and then eventually travellers making a pilgrimage there.

Sounds like something no hip café would even want. A load of unwashed tourists with their greasy hands touching everything.

Come on, loyal readers. Where should I go?

  1. You must go to Postcard Teas. One of my regrets from my last trip is that I did not have enough time to really explore that amazing shop. Let me scrounge up my notes from my trip of places I went and places I wanted to get to but didn’t. Have a lovely time!

  2. I have no answers for you. None at all. When I was there, we ate McDonald’s and Indian buffet and grocery-store food because they were our cheapest options. Ooh, also there was a cheap noodle shop near our college. That’s all I know. Have the best time! Bon vivant the hell out of London!

  3. Hmmm, this is the subject of my entire blog, but if it is too South East London for you, ‘Tea’ next to St Paul’s is pretty fab. Your visit would be for tea the drink- not breakfast… They have about 50 genuinely interesting and different teas; listed under 5 types.

    1. Nothing is too South East London for me. If you tell me it’s good, I’ll check it out.

      That’s what I do.

It’s one of the few responsibilities of a bon vivant. I take it rather seriously.

  4. If you tweet the question – I will happily RT it for you. I don’t know Tottenham Hale at all well. When I loved in London I lived in the central part.
    Good luck!

PS Have you spoken to @The_Devotea? He is currently in London and is an expert of all things tea!
